Need help?

Are you interested in learning basic kayaking skill come practice with us at Akron University’s Olympic sized swimming pool. The club will have a presence every week and will be more then happy to work with any paddler who request help.

The Keel-haulers club has a roll instructor that will work with students on learning the kayak roll if you are interested. With this service you must email us at clevelandkeelhaulers@gmail.com and we will work to get him there to work with you personally if you take advantage of this service we request that you are or become an active paid club member.

Equipment and Logistics:

  • Boats, PFDs (life jackets) and paddles are provided as needed.

  • Personal kayaks are permitted so long as they are clean and free of debris. Boats may be transported through the side entrance of the ONAT pool (door #14). Please note that these doors may not be propped open under any circumstance.

  • Participants may arrive up to 15 minutes early to transport kayaks to the pool deck and use the pool locker rooms.

  • Boats are not permitted on the water before 8pm.

  • All participants must be out of the ONAT facility by 10pm. This means planning ahead to exit the water as early as necessary to ensure you are out of the building on time, including kayak transport and locker room use.

Registration:

Pay $10 for single use or $80 for a semester pass

Passes can be purchased online for single sessions or an entire semester. Typically there are 15 sessions per semester. Single use passes are only valid for the next upcoming Open Kayaking session. In addition to payment, a completed waiver must be on file for the current semester in order to participate.

Upon arrival every participant must sign in with our staff and receive a wrist band to wear for the duration of the session. Staff are available in the leisure pool area and ONAT pool deck for sign-in..

About:

Meet at O’Connor Sports Center in Cincinnati OH for open kayak, roll practice. THIS IS NOT A CLASS! There will be a few volunteers available to help fine tune any skill that you are working on, however there is no guarantee of help. There is no access to locker rooms but there are bathrooms available for changing. All boats must be cleaned and washed prior to entry to the pool. There will be no airbags in boats either. Required gears include helmet, life jacket, skirt. Please make sure all gear is clean! To launch into the pool there will be mats down, there is no entry to the pool other than the mats or floating entry.

Price:

Become a Keel Hauler member ($20 per year), and $15 per person per session.

Details: New kayakers can come learn kayaking skills. Participants may bring their own boats via the loading dock stairs and back entrance as long as the boats are FULLY CLEANED before entering the pool. If you don't own a boat, one can be provided for you to use. Contact Kennedy at actrips@kent.edu with any questions. Pre-registration IS REQUIRED by the Wednesday before each program. Difficulty: Level 1. No experience necessary, mild physical exertion.

Lakewood High School Pool Roll Sessions


Sessions take place on Saturdays from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Pool time starts at 3:00 PM and ends promptly at 5:00 PM. Kayakers cannot enter the building until 2:50 PM. All participants must shower and be completely out of the building by 5:15pm. All kayaks and gear must be completely clean, inside & out. Please remember helmets are required.

Kayaks should be brought through the delivery entrance/emergency exit(Door #15), which is located just to the east of the Robinwood entrance. Pool staff will be stationed at the delivery entrance to assist you. Cannot enter the building until 2:50 PM.

Outdoor Weekly Roll Practice - 2025

Every Tuesday (5-7) and one Sunday Per Month (12-3) from May 14th and ending Sept 5th (weather permitting). Alternating locations between Indigo Lake and Munroe Falls Lake. The Group will meet for informal roll practice. Kayak Soccer on Sundays. Everyone is welcome!
